Are you headed in the right direction?
Is your GPS (God's Planned Solution) being utilized daily to insure your paths are straight so that you may arrive home safely and without getting lost?
Often we can forget that Jesus' narrow way does not naturally coincide with our own. Simply put, our sinful natures can distract us away from God - tugging at our human instincts and betraying our souls with blinding selfishness. You see, our own common sense cannot lead us to the house of the Lord. Why? Because as a people we are tainted, broken, corrupt, defective. So, when it comes to holiness, we cannot depend upon earthly common sense, gut instinct, or strong feelings to bring us back into union with God. Instead, we need the guidance of a qualified Teacher. We need the leading of a loving Shepherd to bring us home and restore us to fullness, completeness, wholeness. To become new in Christ, we need to be influenced by Christ in all we say and do.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)
So, who is your teacher? Who is your shepherd? Who is influencing you en route?
The Bible warns us that it is extremely easy to detour away from the Savior's path and venture down selfish, alternative roads. No matter how we may try, we cannot independently rely upon ourselves to control our eternal destiny, to manage our earthly circumstances, or to oversee our own physical comfort and security. That authority belongs exclusively to God. When we try to control and rationalize unscriptural ways, rather than remain obedient to the truth of God's promises, we steer ourselves off track from the fullness we were originally intended to know through God's saving grace and new life in Christ.
What is grace? Grace is the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God. Walking in God's grace is the only path that insures real joy and eternal life with our King. To walk outside of God's grace is to walk in disgrace - ineptness, clumsiness, offensiveness, ugliness, mercilessness, unholiness, brokenness. I don't know about you - but I walked away from disgrace when I accepted Jesus as my King. Because of this, I have no desire to stumble down a path that will lead me away from Him again. To insure this, I must remain in Him... abiding in His Word... knowing His ways and choosing them over my own.
So, where are you headed? Have you gotten off track from God? Have you taken a detour from the narrow road that insures an eternal, fulfilling life? Have you walked away from Christ's perfect Word and instead redirected yourself to cater to your own personal desires? Specifically, are you justifying and/or rationalizing unscriptural paths that promote self glorification or self gratification? If so, please consider this: For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - comes not from the Father but from the world. (1 John 2:16)
Ladies, did you know that Satan is a deceiver who strives to redirect our focus and lead us down the wrong path? In fact, according to 2 Corinthians, the devil often disguises himself as someone good so that he can control us. "The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Corinthians 4:4)
But the Bible makes a very strong statement regarding how Christians are to live, "God has called us to be holy, not to live impure lives. Anyone who refuses to live by these rules (God's law) is not disobeying human rules but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you." (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8)
Are you headed in the right direction? Are you following the Master's GPS? Are you influenced by the life of the one and only Savior? Are you listening to the teaching of His Holy Spirit? Or have your feet been swift to run into mischief and lead you down dangerous paths away from God's throne? I pray that every DW will submerse her life in His Word and remain devoted to obeying His laws. For Jesus is the only Way!
Oh precious King, "Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." (Psalms 25:4-5)
